Cold Lake Veterinary Clinic - Exporting Pets to the United States

Traveling to the United States has been narrowed down to only a few details!

usa

Dogs:

Starting on August 1, 2024, the only required documentation for DOGS entering or returning to the United States that have been only in dog rabies-free
or low-risk countries in the past 6 months is the CDC Dog Import Form.

In addition to having a receipt for a CDC Dog Import Form:

  • Dogs must appear healthy upon arrival.
    • Dogs must be at least 6 months old at time of entry or return to the U.S.
      • Dogs must have a ISO microchip that can be detected with a universal scanner to identify them. (it is ideal to have the dogs scanned and
microchipped PRIOR to their Rabies vaccinations).

Please contact the clinic if your pet is needing an updated examination, rabies history and/or microchip. We will be happy to help and can give
you an estimate for the appointment!

      TO RETURN INTO CANADA:
Although dogs are NOT required to have their Rabies vaccinations up to date to go across the United States border, dogs MUST have a valid rabies
vaccination to return back to Canada.

      Cats:

"CDC requires that cats appear healthy upon arrival to the United States. Cats are subject to inspection at ports of entry and may be denied entry into the
United States if they have evidence of a zoonotic disease. If a cat appears to be ill, further examination by a licensed veterinarian at the owner's expense
might be required before the cat is allowed to enter the United States.

Cats are not required to have proof of rabies vaccination for importation into the United States. However, CDC recommends that all cats be vaccinated
against rabies, and your U.S. destination may have additional requirements.

All cats arriving in the state of Hawaii and the territory of Guam, even from the U.S. mainland, are subject to locally imposed quarantine requirements."
